Era II: Collapse
2k6, January: January brought two major events: the public launch of Trochlear Recordings, and the abrupt break-up between Jared and his girlfriend Gina. News of the latter wouldn't come for more than a month, as no communication was made by Jared during the interim. In his absence, Jaya managed the affairs of the label to ensure promotions and sales ran steady.
2k6, February: When Jared returned, he asked Jaya to join him as co-owner of Trochlear. Jaya agreed, and the two made plans for the label to span 2006. With plans made, Jared re-took the reigns. Jaya left on an extended trip to expand promotions and contacts for the label. On February 23rd, KarmaDownload featured Mushuto's "Flex Louder" album on the breakbeat charts. Sales were on a steady rise.
2k6, March: Raw 42 UK--the company licensing Trochlear material to film and commercial producers--sold its assets and went offline. Trochlear was without a market for licensing. Despite the loss, March also brought the return of Jared's laptop. It had been lost in his breakup over New Years. With the laptop came new music and opportunities.
Jared worked with ATX rapper "Ghetto Breeze" on producing the rapper's first album, as well as website design. Jaya, from afar, re-designed the Trochlear blog, including info about the latest addition to the label--HALUSIN8. HALUSIN8, a DJ from the Omaha rave scene, had been an early reviewer for Trochlear material. Jared, under the Symbis entity, had titled the song "The Balance of Supa" after her in thanks for her feedback. After hearing her work, he and Jaya welcomed her onto the label.
On March 17th, the second album from Epileptik Cerebral Reaktor was released--"The Human Design". It retained glitch elements the ECR entity had become known for, but contained a trip-hop beat to carry the album from start to finish. It also featured album art by Austin designer Visi0n ATX. The combination made it an immediate hit. Another surprise was the return for John Perez. He and Jared worked together to create three versions of the "Anywhere A.M." track. The final EP was released thru KarmaDownload alongside "The Human Design".
2k6, May: Expanding on their success, a full album for "Anywhere A.M." was released. It included the original "Egypse" and "Tecknology" tracks by Symbis, as well as all three parts to the title track. Their track "Visi0n of Illusion" was renamed "Loudspeaka'", then included as well. Jared filled it out with previously unreleased tracks by Mushuto and Schema. The album's release coincided with Jared's official welcoming of HALUSIN8 and S8pience to the Trochlear family. To wrap the month up, Jared releases the second EP from Schema--"Binary Soul".
2k6, June: Without warning, the KarmaDownload site could no longer be accessed. In its place, an error page stated that KarmaDownload would soon return. The error page would remain online for two months before KarmaDownload officially went out of business. Trochlear went without a channel for distribution, losing a large portion of its promotional base at the same time.
June brought with it, also, the release of the first full album from HALUSIN8--"Technoshamans Gaiatribes". Without a distributor, the album was made available thru HALUSIN8's MySpace page and thru email. Celebrating the release, HALUSIN8 turned to production on her S8pience entity.
2k6, July: John Perez and Jared Newby broke off their relationship. Soon after, Perez was imprisoned. Project Symbis was put "on hold" indefinitely.
2k6, August: With no licensing, no distribution and promotions failing, Jaya created a contract for Trochlear artists to promote their music thru cinema. Jared and HALUSIN8 cleared the idea, which allowed film producers to use Trochlear material for free, requiring only that they credit the song and artist along with the work. The three remaining Trochlear artists made plans to meet in September to pull the label back together.
Jared and HALUSIN8 carried on music production thru August. HALUSIN8 released new tracks for two new entities--Pranakatana and D3viant 3xperiment. D3, especially, was embraced quickly by Trochlear listeners. Jared announced the first album by Lysin was nearing completion, for which he'd already finished album art and digital inserts.
2k6, September: For the first and only time in Trochlear history, all owners of the label gathered in one place--Austin, Texas. The Trochlear CD Catalogue was finalized. It included all Trochlear music, the video contract and an interface for browsing the disc. Jared had finished "The Diatone Sessions" album for ECR in time to be included on the disc. This news was quickly followed by music from Jared's new entity--Monkee Monsta'. Jared announced, also, that Trochlear would soon have a website. The meeting ended with plans for re-distribution, and for the launch of the catalog.
2k6, October: The first short film to feature Trochlear music was released--"15 Minutes" by AndersonEnvy Media. Three tracks by Mushuto, and two by San Jaya Prime, were used in the movie. October also brought the first website for Trochlear. Austin designer Visi0n ATX coded the site, designing most the graphics for it at the same time. The rate at which interest in Trochlear had been dwindling began to slow.
The first full album for S8pience, titled "Satori", was released. It featured the epic track "Oracle (Mixtech)", which was applauded by listeners and artists alike. HALUSIN8's second album--"Technologia Volume One"--followed soon after. Before October would end, D3viant 3xperiment's first full album was released as well--"Volume 1 Singles".
2k6, November: Jared secured a deal to distribute thru TuneTribe. The full album version of Schema's "Binary Soul" was uploaded immediately, followed by "Conversation Pieces", "Anywhere A.M.", "Flex Louder" and "Binary Soul". Despite re-distribution, both Jared and Jaya required an alternate source of income. Setting the label aside, both sought work outside the label.
2k6, December: In order to have Trochlear artists collaborate with artists outside the label, Jared created a spin-off label called "Ambitekture Recordings". He produced two tracks to kick the label off: "Dyskinesia" and "Pale".
2k7, Winter: D3viant 3xperiment's second album, "Volume 2 Singles", kicked off the year 2007. It was the last good news from Trochlear before the label went silent.
2k7, Spring: Jared's health and heart began failing him. Visi0n ATX had ceased production on the Trochlear website. Jared and Jaya got together for a meeting in spring. The two laid plans to revitalize the label when Jaya went overseas in autumn. With Jared's health, and the dangers of travel for Jaya, careful precautions for the future were put in place. Should either artist be killed or jailed, Trochlear would survive them. It was the last meeting between the two.
2k7, Summer: By summer, the Trochlear website had been taken offline. Without promotions, the selections on sale thru TuneTribe were failing. Jared was hospitalized for his heart condition shortly before Jaya left Austin.
2k7, Fall: On September 5th, Jared passed away. Trochlear's founder was dead. On September 11th, Jaya sent out an email to Jared and HALUSIN8 with news about the new promotions. The one sent to Jared was returned "failure to deliver". HALUSIN8 informed him of a MySpace message she'd received stating that Jared was dead. On the 19th, Jaya verified this information. Together, the two gathered the label's recorded works in the short time before Jaya left for Europe. Jared's family was contacted. A memorial for him was erected on MySpace until a proper one could be rendered. HALUSIN8 was asked by Jaya to step up as a co-owner of the label, to which she agreed. With this final loss, however, both Jaya and HALUSIN8 agreed to let Trochlear rest until the time was right to resurrect it.
